Getting The Tree Up

We cut our tree down this past Sunday, and got it set up with some water to drink. Yesterday after getting home around 5:30 p.m., we got the lights and candles on it. Finally, this afternoon we got the ornaments hung. Doing all this has made me very aware of how much worse my hip has gotten in a year. Last year I could get down on the ground to check the water level, water the tree, and arrange the yards-long piece of material I use as a tree skirt. (Some day I'm going to spend the money on a real tree-skirt.) Not this year. Emma is doing most of that, with some help from Rob.

I snapped this photo when we were done:

It wasn't until I looked at it on my computer that I noticed the big frog slippers in front of the Santa! And I'm going to have to ask Rob to do something about the tree-skirt arrangement tomorrow, when Emma is at school. Also, that black thing hanging on the wall? That's part of a pipe-cleaner cat toy Emma had created and hung there. I think that needs to go too :-)

  1. I don't have a tree skirt either. I use an old red and white flannel baby blanket.

    1. For years we used two red and white flannel baby quilts that my son's great grandmother made. I've since packed them up to save, but they sure made cute tree skirts.

Cassi, your tree is lovely. Next Christmas you'll be back on floor patrol!

  2. A couple of years ago the fabric I put around the tree instead of a skirt somehow got pushed into the stand which holds the water. Unbeknownst to me, it wicked the water out of the stand and just sat wet on the hardwood floor. Oy vey, it ruined the floor in that area because I never noticed...just thought the tree was drinking a lot. Now I have a skirt that fits a little better! Bad memory that's kinda funny now.

    1. I discovered our skirt was wicking water out of the tree this morning! I think I caught it in time.

  3. I'm always semi-jealous of people with real trees. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through you- beautiful tree, by the way.

We don't have a tree skirt, either. I just take a throw that resides on the back of our couch the rest of the year and arrange it around the base of our fake tree. Good enough for me.

    1. Is there some reason you don't have a real tree when you like them? Allergies?

  4. Lovely tree. You could make a skirt with the fabric - they are pretty easy. Really.

  5. I think it looks like home. Beautiful.
We have no tree skirt. I had one years ago, but it was such a pain to move when I had to water.

  6. With proper training, children can learn place the tree skirt "just so" and you can simply sit back and enjoy!

I share your frustration of not being able to do all that you wish to do, since I have been sidelined here as well. Here's to letting go of little things!
