A Lazy Sunday

It iced today, so I stayed inside. Actually I did bring the compost pail out, and got rained/sleeted/snowed on for my trouble. So I decided to skip grocery shopping because freezing rain is one driving condition that scares me, and just stay home. Luckily, Emma is signed up for one of her two school lunches a month, so I don't have to worry that we're out of oranges and yogurts.

At one point this afternoon, after reading on the couch for a while, I started craving smarties.
Luckily Rob wandered in a few minutes later, and was able to roust some up for me --from Emma's container of left-over Halloween candy. Smarties don't go bad. He also found a whole bag of sweet-tarts, which we all agreed are really without merit, and threw away.

Then, Emma needed a shower, and Rob and I had at least a half-hour of uninterrupted conversation! Quite a bonus on a Sunday afternoon. Between Monday-night dinners each week, and a few other random moments of conversation, I feel like Rob and I are communicating so much more this semester. Things weren't bad before, but this is better.

Now it's dark and I'm on my last cup of coffee. Popcorn and wine for dinner later, I think, to counteract the caffeine  :-)

  1. I wish I could get away with serving popcorn and wine for dinner. I skipped grocery shopping today (but I didn't have a good excuse) so we scrounged up some leftovers plus grilled cheese.

Tonight my husband and I spent half an hour arguing with Youngest Daughter to get her to go to bed so that hubby and I could have some uninterrupted adult conversation. But the argument made us so tired we only talked for 5 minutes, and then he went to bed.

  2. Sounds like you made the best of a sloppy day. That freezing rain! I like my 'alone time' with D, too. It grounds us.

  3. Popcorn and wine- sounds like a supper of champions to me! Although I'll take sweet-tarts of Smarties any day.

    1. Well, I guess it's a good thing that SOMEONE likes sweet-tarts :-)

  4. Popcorn and wine is dinner here at least once a week. It's my favorite.

  5. Smarties don't last long at my house; several of us snitch them from the bowl early on in November! Popcorn and wine sounds like a lovely supper (fruit salad and popcorn, right?) and the only thing wrong with your weekend is that you were the one who took the compost out. I've made it my goal to turn it into a husband and kid job... especially when it is icky weather. :)
