Happy

It may be the wine, but you know what makes me happy right now?

Emma is in the kitchen, by herself, making cupcakes (from a box mix). She's been in here to check a few things, but I don't have to get off the couch.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to get up (without an alarm), shower, stop by Panera to get my breakfast, and enjoy it in the peace of my office. Without an alarm because after being home sick since last Wednesday, the kid has no school tomorrow (teacher planning day). That's six days in a row at home, but who's counting?

While I'm gone, her 9 year old almost-cousin will come over because her mom also has to teach tomorrow. Rob will leave to teach about 1/2 hour after K comes over, and the two girls will decorate these cupcakes Emma is currently baking. Then they're supposed to work on some homework project K needs to get done. Emma is SO excited that K gets to come stay with her, like she's a grown-up, while her mom is teaching.

I will teach my class and be back home about 1 p.m.

Life is SO much easier than when she was three. Or five. Or even seven.

  1. Yes. A child who knows how to cook brings much happiness to the household. And not having to watch them every minute - also much happiness. Sorry to hear she was sick, but glad she's better.

  2. I am such a fan of the older child. Mine have just been great.

  3. Oh, you hit the nail on the head--those years of being on duty every single minute of the day were SO hard. Every stage is special in its own way, of course, but wait until she takes YOU out to dinner and a show. Ahhh.

  4. I, too, love it when the kids get old enough to let the parents continue doing what they need to do -- or in the case of sitting on the couch, when the kids take care of things on their own! (Note to self: teach boys to bake cupcakes!)

  5. Mine made an apple tart yesterday. She took all questions to daddy, so that I could work on my own projects.
    6 days is nothing...

  6. Emma always sounds like a pretty responsible kid. Sounds like you put in the work when she was little and are now enjoying the fruits- or cupcakes, I guess- of your labor! Go, you!

  7. And it just keeps getting better until one day you can say, "Hey, would you mind taking the car and running up to the store?" :-) And they'll do it, almost guaranteed, because hey! it's the car!
